Trump Pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord
|
Good thing, bad thing, climate conspiracy, or couldn't give a shit. Make America great again.
Personally I think it's not the best move.

He thinks the sun shines out of his arse and can therefore control climate.

He is actually doing what he thinks the people that elected him want.
He is probably right about that specifically.

Could someone explain the Paris agreement to me, as if they were speaking to a 10 year old.

Anything that Obama either signed up to or instigated is bad and must be repealed immediately. I reckon it's as simple as that in Trump world.

Pretty much every country signs up to an agreement to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Each country determined its own contribution.
Obama, knowing he is on his way out, signs up for something pretty drastic.
Trump gets elected promising to put his countrymen first, and pulls the US out of this deal as the idea is factorys can reopen and jobs are created.

This really annoys me.
Climate change is a real thing. Him doing this either means he is too stupid to believe it, or too much of a selfish cunt to care about it.
Either way very worrying.

He should have done what every other country did. Sign up to it with no intention whatsoever of meeting the agreed targets.

Maybe close to being that simple but not quite in my opinion. It is the tried and true formula of someone outside your country dictating something that will take jobs away.
For the voter, especially the Trump voter, the prospect of ruining your kids world in 50 years is a lot less scary than not being able to provide for them this year or next.

'Climate change is a real thing.' Well, duh. Let's assume you mean man-made global warming. And let's let it stand.
'Him doing this either means he is too stupid to believe it, or too much of a selfish cunt to care about it.'
Explain, using symbols if you wish, how, logically, you reach both those conclusions without including as an unspoken premise the assertion, 'Trump is a complete cunt and I hate him and he is a rotter'

Not sure why this is a surprise given that this was one of his campaign promises, wasn't it?

He either doesn't believe it's a real thing and so is ignoring it = stupid.
Or he knows full well the potential irreversible damage which will be done to the planet by his decision but puts that below his own agenda = selfish cunt.

"too much of a selfish cunt to care about it."
In a way very much yes but in the perversity of democracy, he is doing what the people that elected him want. As said it was an election promise, one that he can actually fulfil.

Exactly. If anyone thinks China is going to reduce their, especially by 20 odd %, then they're going to be in for a very big surprise.

But doing that does not elicit the patriotic vote bump of telling the Johnny Foreigner leaders where he can stick his pretty piece of paper.

At the end of they day all the tree-hugging hippy's can get their knickers in a twist as much as they like.
Trump has a job to do. That job is to create jobs to stabilise the US economy. If he feels the Paris agreement is preventing him from doing this then he has to make a decision. Unlike all the others who sign up to it as a PC project and do not achieve set targets.
He said last night in a press conference he has to the US first and if he can come to a better deal for the US then he will sign back up.
It's all ok a country saying "Yah!! We are in the Paris agreement. We are cool. We are saving the world" when they actually know they can't achieve the targets or have no intention of trying.
At least Trump is being honest.

Do you understand the Paris agreement, Scorchio, or are you working on the premise of "Trump has done something, I don't like him, Trump must be wrong and I'm right even though I know fuck all about what I'm having a go at him for"?

Or he knows it's a load of old bollocks and the likes of India, China and Brazil do not give a flying fuck about the targets and their economy's are growing so fast that they States may get left behind.
He should be applauded for showing it up as the sham it is.
As others said, if anyone things China will achieve the targets set then they are naïve. China just play the game. They don't give a shit about climate change when their economy is booming. And what happens when they don't hot targets?.... The other members tut tut and wave a finger and then shrug their shoulders.
Trump knows that and so wants better deals negotiated. Unlike other US presidents, like Obama, who knew fully well what was going on but still signed the States into an impossible deal they could never achieve and then gets to look like a saint.
